PE1CHY: Fwtool quick start
info
Every new firmware has its own belonging fwtool. Attempts to load settings with a wrong version (older or newer) may fail. A complete set of actual firmware can be found on Stefan's site (SR-systems.de) Fwtool can be started from DOS command line (dos window) or with a proper batchfile Example: fwtool -v2 -d /dev/com1 -c mysets.txt -W > mysets.log
-v2 = extended verbose mode
Before using Fwtool you have to create your own config file (mysets.txt) that suits your needs. Documentation is found in dvbsconfig.pdf from Thomas Sailer. The jumper on the multiplexer/baseband board must be in the RUN position. (The only time you must use the PROG position is when downloading new firmware (the .mhx file). Downloading new settings may take some time, up to 3 minutes. The actual time that is needed depends on how many things are changed, Fwtool first compares the checksum of 4 different parts in the flash, and updates only the part giving a checksum difference. After downloading new settings a cold reboot is needed, switch the DATV tx off and on again. Remarks: In the config file lines may be left out, in this
case the previous settings will be used. This may lead to unwanted behaviour
if you do not know what these settings were. With a simple communication
tool like Hyperterm (Windows) you can examine the actual settings of the
transmitter. Connect the Tx to the comport, start Hyperterm with 19200,n,8,1
and press the spacebar. A menu should appear. Choose <P> for parameters.

DG8FAC: Hardware quick start info New Boards are pre configurated. After Power is on and the Encoder is plugged on TS1 Connector (near by the 60MHz XCO) the boards are running and transmiting on 1291MHz with a 6 MSymbol rate & FEC 2/3. The LEDs on the Board are: 3 pcs of GREEN
are PowerGood LEDs (2,5V 3,3V and 5V). The RED
Led cames up first, one second later comes up the Yellow
LED (in this case the Firmware is loaded in to the FPGA). After the Yellow
LED is on, the RED LED strat Flashing, in this case the Encoder Firmware
is loading. When the RED LED goes off, the Encoder is Ready for use
- the System is Running.

30 Oct 2004: We
have implemented a new feature which now enables the transmission of Teletext
in one or both streams.
20 Oct 2004: Boards are available now. Contact us for ordering information. 2 Jan 2004: DVB-S modulator specifications added (PDF) 12 July 2003: At this time we are working on a cheap version of our fully working DVB-S transmitter. The IQ modulator boards for 13cm and 23cm are ready and tested. We are using the direct conversion technique for generation of the QPSK spectrum. This technique requires careful PCB design in order to minimize unwanted feedback of the modulated output back to the input of the IQ modulator. This is much harder to achieve at 13cm than for 23cm due to practical RF aspects like undesired feedback and coupling, shielding etc. Therefore when we had to decide which design to complete first we chose for the more difficult 13cm version. Now we also have our 23cm board working and the results look great. We done some an EVM test which shows values of approximately 750m% EVM for the 23cm edition which is really good. |

DVB Config
What is DVB Config? DVB Config is our tool for downloading parameters
in our DVB Modulator. It is a program which runs on a PC and
communicates through a serial port with the modulator. Many adjustments
can be easily downloaded into the board. Configurations can be
loaded and saved. Below we present some preliminary screenshots of
our beta version which will become available soon.
