28th EU HF Championship - 2021

Every first Saturday in August, EU contesters compete for the title of European Champion. The constant good activity and praises for the contest organization are the biggest reward for all of us who are trying to maintain such a standard of EUHFC Contest. Contest is running since 1994 and EUHFC 2021 was 28th in turn.

We experienced pretty good activity again, but total number of QSOs is 22% down compared to the last year and 16% less received logs this year.

QSOs CW SSB ALL Logs
2020 443169   101947   545116   1515
2021 339980 -23,28% 84833 -16,79% 424813 -22,07% 1268 -16,30%

Statistics of the received logs by years is available here.

Not great conditions on high bands and QRN on low bands, many areas experienced thunderstorms and all the problems which come with such a weather, sorry about that.

EUHFC is a high rate contest, the winner of MIX HP category Milen (LZ5DB) operated super station LZ5R logged 1920 QSOs in 12 hours. This means a constant average of 160 QSO/h or 2.7 QSO/min, taking into account the limitations of changing bands and mode.

Few new zone records (MIX HP & CW HP) were improved this year despite less activity. All current / all-time EUHFC records can be viewed here.

European Russia (UA) has regained the title of national winner. They are again followed by Lithuania (LY) on 2nd place and 3rd place again belongs to Ukraine (UR). Congratulations! Complete results ranged by DXCC are available here.

Some statistics from EUHFC 2021 (1268 logs)

All (different) calls in database: 6.365
Number of QSOs: 424.813

CW QSO: 339.980 (80.03%)
SSB QSO: 84.833 (19.97%)

CW has been again and will probably remain the king mode in EUHFC, the majority of participants are in CW categories.

Total unique calls in database: 4269

Common calls in database: 3460

Busted calls in database: 3615

Cross-checked 381.150 (89.72%) out of 424.813 QSO. The most used software was again N1MM (43.8% of all logs).

Failure to comply with contest rules

The Contest Committee has carefully checked all the logs, different data sources, recordings, DXcluster network logs etc... and adopted the following decisions:

NOT CLASSIFIED (due to penalties in previous contests)

Seven (7) stations are Not classified in EUHFC 2021 (logs are used as Checklog) being penalized in previous contests in year 2020 (see chapter 12 of actual contest rules):

S51CK - DQ in CQWW SSB 2020

S56P - DQ in EUHFC 2020
SO3O - DQ in CQWW SSB 2020
UR1HR - DQ in CQWW CW 2020
M3AWD - DQ in CQWPX CW 2020 as MM3AWD
UT3UV - DQ in CQWPX CW 2020
YL2HR - DQ in CQWPX CW 2020

These stations were reclassified to Checklog due to detected different irregularities: EA1X, IU0LSQ, OM7JG, UR5KP, OZ1D, OZ8ZN, YU4SAX, YU4VOX. Details are available here.

We are pretty sure that our past work brings some results. As in WW competitions as well we have less self-spotting. Some self-spotting was noticed, but not huge and in this case this time we are issuing only warning to some stations (R6DCS, UY1IP, 9A3MA, SO7E).

However, we can conclude that we are pleased to detect less violations of the rules each year. There can be two explanations; whether the participants really adhere more to the contest rules or whether the Contest Committee is less successful in detecting violations.

Please also note that the competition runs exactly from 12:00 UTC to 23.59 UTC. QSOs before and after the contest are not valid. All QSOs after 23:59:59 (also checked by the SDR recordings) were removed from the logs. Please do not do this!

Full EUHFC contest is recorded at different locations and all committee decisions have valid and stable basis. Most of the logs also contain the exact operating frequencies, frequencies are also cross-checked. Every log with the exact frequencies, no matter how big it is, is very important and also of a great help for contest committee decisions. The Competition Committee would like to thank all who sent their logs, that is also the reason that we managed to achieve such a high percentage of cross-checked QSOs.

All logs have been processed with various sophisticated algorithms and a lot of double-check work has been done to review different types of errors in the logs.

Results and UBN reports are transparent and public.

Our congratulations to Peter, DL4FN for the most accurate log, 799 CW QSOs with no errors. He is followed by IV3EAD (444 QSO) and SF6W (325 QSO), all CW contacts, no errors found in the logs as well. See the complete 'Top 100' Honor-Roll List here. Great job!

Franc, S59AA has been active in EUHFC in all 28 years, congrats. You can see the Top 100 EUHFC list here.

Once again - participants please read the rules before the contest!

Next EUHFC will be held on 6th of August 2022!

Our congratulations to the prize winners!
